Trigger Studios launches “Survive 2012″ iPhone app

Developers at Trigger Studios, the augmented reality entertainment production studio, have broken new ground with the release of their “Survive 2012″ iPhone application.  The new iPhone app was recently released to promote the upcoming Sony Pictures mega-movie called “2012″ (check out the trailer below).

In the game “Survive 2012″ players try to make their way from their actual location to a digital Tibet.  They progress closer and closer to their final destination by answering a series of trivia questions which relate to survival.  Each player gets three “lives” to get from their location to Tibet.  If a player gets stumped by a trivia question they can access their iPhone contacts list directly from the game to ask their friends for help.  This completely new feature, accessing your contact list and making a call from within the game, is a bit of a breakthrough in iPhone game development.  According to Jason Yim, Trigger Studios President and Executive Creative Director, this new feature which is seemingly simple is actually “quite complex”.

2012

The introduction of new tools and features like this signify the start of a new wave of innovation by developers on the iPhone operating system.  In game calling and other forms of communication, smart in-game micro-transactions, and introducing elements of cloud computing to deliver a real-time multi-player experience seamlessly across the network.  Just to name a few.

Exciting new developments courtesy of Trigger Studios.

I look forward to seeing the movie 2012? this weekend. The CGI looked great. Maybe the story and acting won’t be up to par for everyone but the 6 bucks I’ll be paying for the matinee…. well… I think it will be well worth the price for the big special effects alone.
