Ad.ly, an LA-based startup, just recently launched looking to build a market
around in-stream advertising on Twitter. Looking to capitalize on the massive growth of Twitter, Ad.ly is linking high-profile celebrities with advertisers on Twitter to distribute links to specific marketing campaigns through the celebrities tweet streams. Bascially, the celebrity receives payment from advertisers for messages Ad.ly takes a commission. The service launched last month with a good initial following of celebrities (see clip below courtesy of the companies blog):
The startup recently received seed funding from GRP Partners and also signed Entertainment Fusion Group to handle its public relations and celebrity procurement. That said, Ad.ly isn’t the only player in this emerging space of Twitter in-stream advertising. Other players like; SponsoredTweets, ExecTweets, Be-A-Magpie, and Twittad have also set there advertising sites on monetizing Twitter activity.
Get ready for the next chapter of online advertising – tweet streams. Is this a good thing?
