Hallmark has just announced its partnership with SocialCalendar to deliver a new Facebook application for users to manage their social lives. SocialCalendar currently has over 13 million total installs of its app with roughly 2 million active users. Now with the marketing and investment backing of Hallmark, the new partnership plans to relaunch as Hallmark SocialCalendar.
Roughly ten years ago there was a movement of “bricks-and-mortar” retailers creating online stores in an effort to cater to the emerging web economy. Turn the clock forward and now those same retailers are turning to social networks to target the growing social-economy. The new Hallmark SocialCalendar application lets users plan events with Facebook friends and integrates those events into your social calendar. In addition, users can will be able to schedule personal events like birthdays and anniversaries as well as giving users the ability to buy virtual goods to share with their friends.
- Hallmark Wall Wishes
- ARTICUL8™ Cards
- Virtual Gifts
- Calendar Icons
Hallmark Wall Wishes are micro-size animated images that can be posted on your friends Facebook wall along with the rest of the new products. All of the new products are virtual goods.
In a quote from the announcement release, both Hallmark and SocialCalendar note the partnerships potential as the greeting-card industry looks to move online.
“Millions of consumers look to Hallmark to help them connect with the important people in their lives,” said Paul Barker, Vice President – Hallmark Digital. “We’re excited about the relationship with SocialCalendar because it makes it so easy to remember birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays and acknowledge them when you’re online.”“Hallmark is taking the SocialCalendar experience to the next level,” said Raj Lalwani, SocialCalendar co-founder and CEO. “They fundamentally understand relationships and people’s need to connect. Hallmark created new products specifically for the Facebook environment that add meaning and reflect the nature of the relationship.”
This is a big move for Hallmark. It wouldn’t be shocking if we see Hallmark buying SocialCalendar in the near future as the merger and acquisition marketplace heats up again. Stay tuned for more “bricks-and-mortar” outlets move online, to the social-economy.
