Earlier today at the epic SXSW annual conference in Austin TX, Twitter CEO Evan Williams announced a new platform intended to spread Twitter throughout the web. The @anywhere platform has the potential to exponentially expand the Twitter ecosystem. With the new platform, website operators will be able to plug in @anywhere to integrate some basic Twitter functionality without requiring their users to navigate away from a page.
When you visit sites that support @anywhere, users will be able to follow any Twitter account associated with the site without navigating to the Twitter profile page – effectively integrating Twitter directly into the site. For some examples of how this new platform can be utilized, the official Twitter blog suggests that you’ll be able to follow writers, journalists, reporters, bloggers, etc directly from their byline or will be able to tweet about a cool YouTube video your watching without interrupting it.
