EA backs Tiger with new online game

April 6th, 2010

Electronic Arts announced today the launch of its Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online as Woods sets out to make his return during this week’s Masters.  While many of his sponsors are running for the hills, EA executive Peter Moore defends their decision to continue backing Woods in the below CNBC interview from earlier today.

Moore, president of EA Sports, said the company stood by Woods as sponsors such as Gatorade and Accenture dumped him because it had a “deeper relationship” with Woods, who is a gamer. Woods’ name and image has been on the cover of EA’s PGA Tour golf games for 12 years as reported by VentureWire.

“He’s in the game itself,” Moore said. “He’s not an arms-length endorser. He is the world’s greatest golfer until someone proves otherwise.”

Can’t wait to see his return at this Masters. Highest rated golf tournament in TV history?

Gowalla’s 10 and a half days of Christmas game

December 17th, 2009

gowallaLocation-based game and social networking company Gowalla has announced its push for the holidays with their “10 and a half days of Christmas” game (because the 12 days of Christmas is too predictable).  Foursquare competitor Gowalla recently closed a Series B investment round from an all-star Silicon Valley cast earlier this month in an effort to unseat Foursquare in the buzz-worthy location-based game/social network race.

While we have covered Foursquare in the past, we haven’t yet profiled Gowalla’s service.  Similar to Foursquare, the Austin, Texas-based Gowalla game is all about checking into various places, sharing them with your friends and competing for prizes.  Gowalla does have a slightly different spin on their game platform such as enabling virtual goods at different location points.  You can see a brief demo of the service in action below:

myspace_small_logoThe MySpace makeover continues with the launch of the highly anticipated James Cameron mega-movie Avatar with full “blue-carpet” coverage of the Hollywood premier this Wednesday evening (Dec 16 @ 6pm PT/9pm ET).  In addition to the premier coverage, MySpace has been busy turning itself from a social network player into a media outlet.  Now offering everything from fashion to music, and of course movies, the MySpace makeover seems to be in full effect.
