Twitter and LinkedIn announced today a smart integration that lets users sync their LinkedIn account with Twitter to allow for an easy flow of information to take place between your networks. Twitter has long been connected to social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, but this new move is bridging your social and professional status. Highlighting the fact that Twitter is alive and well within the enterprise.
The announcement on Twitter’s official blog today emphasizes the evolution the status streaming innovator is experiencing:
You’ll be able to set your professional status and display more fresh content on your LinkedIn profile via Twitter. And, showing your stream in places off of Twitter.com will connect you to even more people. Shared interest in tips, news, leaders and perspectives can thrust conversations into virtual brainstorms and even business opportunities.
Announced earlier today on LinkedIn’s corporate blog by CEO Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn
has surpassed 50 million business users worldwide. LinkedIn’s growth seems to be accelerating by adding roughly 5 million new users in the last 2 months, and the last 1 million users joining in the last 12 days.
About half of LinkedIn’s users are international – which is where the recent surge has come from. The business-orientated social network has more than 11 million users in Europe and its fastest growing country is now India with almost 3 million users. Apparently the Netherlands has the highest per capita rate of adoption at 30% of the population (seems unreal).
