Auto-tune your status with Sony’s new Facebook app

November 30th, 2009

sonyJust in time for the holiday season, Sony has released a new application on Facebook that lets users auto-tune their Facebook status.  The new is called Auto-Tune Your Status, cleverly enough.  While the name is rather self explanatory, the app lets you update your status and then lets you replay it as an auto-tuned song.

autotune

Its pretty easy to use the new app and impress all your friends with your auto-tuned witty status updates.  All you have to do is write your status update and then make a selection on the sound and voice, once done, the update appears on your wall.

Unfortunately, the application only works within Facebook, meaning you cannot embedded anywhere else for now.  That being said, it may be only a matter of time before you also be able to auto-tune your tweets.  Thank you T-Pain!  Enjoy and happy holidays.

Next PlayStation 3 update – Facebook integration

November 12th, 2009

Considered still in the rumor stages, it looks like the next Sony PlayStation 3 firmware update will included console integration with Facebook.  Leaked screen shots buried within a publicly available section of Sony’s European website shows the native Facebook integration, see screen shots below:

The long awaited move by Sony looks like its coming to the public right on the heals of the new Xbox LIVE Dashboard Update that adds social networking integrations with Facebook, Twitter and last.fm – albeit not available yet to everyone.

As our games become more and more social, the ability to integrate your social media stream directly into the games – and now the consoles themselves – will continue the expansion of social entertainment.  Interactivity with entertainment is clearly becoming a “killer app” in the social media revolution.

What do you think of control your social stream from your game console?

NetFlix to offer streaming media on PlayStation 3

October 26th, 2009

NetFlix, the Los Gatos, CA-based media distribution company, announced today that they will be offering their members the ability to stream their media content to the Sony PlayStation3 computer entertainment system.  NetFlix plans to unveil the service next month just in time for the holidays.

NextFlixPS3StreamingThis recent announcement clearly marks another step in NetFlix’s strategy to move away from the DVD/Blu-Ray shipping and distribution business.  The PlayStation3 will join the list of devices that support Netflix’s video streaming service. Last year, Microsoft and NetFlix announced a partnership that brought their service to the XBOX 360.

How does the new service work?  Initially, users need to request an Instant Streaming Blu-ray disc from NetFlix for their PlayStation3 entertainment consoles – plus you’ll obviously need to have a high-speed internet connection as well.  Once you have that in place, you’ll be able to access your instant queues or browse through the titles on the custom interface.
